Residents across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire are being advised that several wards at hospitals within the area have temporarily closed due to cases of norovirus.
Affected hospital sites include:
— Llanelli
— Aberystwyth
— Haverfordwest
The temporary restrictions are aimed at helping to reduce the spread of infection and protect vulnerable patients. Visitors are being asked to only attend hospital sites if they are well, with only essential visits currently being permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Norovirus is highly contagious and commonly causes:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Stomach cramps
• Mild fever
• Headaches
• Aching limbs
If you develop symptoms, please stay home and avoid contact with others for at least 48 hours after symptoms have cleared.
Simple ways to help prevent the spread:
• Wash hands regularly with soap and warm water
• Keep household surfaces clean
• Avoid preparing food for others while unwell Avoid:
• Sharing towels, flannels or toothbrushes
• Eating raw or unwashed food
Please help protect patients, NHS staff and our wider community by following the guidance and only visiting hospital sites when absolutely necessary if feeling unwell. For further advice and updates, please visit the NHS 111 Wales and Hywel Dda Health Board websites.
