Carmarthenshire County Council is marking International Women’s Day with a full week of events, activities and online sessions designed to celebrate, support and empower women and girls across our communities. International Women’s Day is an important moment each year to recognise achievements, challenge inequality, and strengthen opportunities for women and girls in every part of society. 

This year’s programme reflects that commitment in a meaningful and practical way.A Week of Learning, Inspiration and Wellbeing. Throughout the week, the Council is delivering a series of online sessions focused on themes that matter deeply to women and girls, including: -

• Health and wellbeing, with accessible information and support.

• Confidence building, helping women and girls develop skills and self-belief.

• Sport and physical activity, encouraging participation and breaking down barriers.

The virtual format ensures that women and girls from every corner of Carmarthenshire can take part, removing travel barriers and making the programme as inclusive as possible. Community Activities Across the County. Leisure centres in Carmarthen, Ammanford and Llanelli are hosting additional activities to mark the week, demonstrating strong local support and creating welcoming spaces for women and girls to connect, participate and celebrate together.

Promoting Dignity and Equality.On Friday, March 6, celebrations continue with the launch of a new video created in partnership with Period Dignity Sir Gâr. The event at Canolfan Pentre Awel (5:30pm–7:30pm) will feature stall holders and interactive activities, shining a spotlight on the importance of dignity, equality and access for all women and girls. Breaking down stigma and ensuring fair access to essential products and opportunities remains a key priority for the Council and its partners.

A Major Sporting Highlight at Parc y Scarlets. The week will culminate in a landmark sporting event as Cymru’s women’s national football team take to the field at Parc y Scarlets.

• Cymru v Montenegro – 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier

• Tickets from £3 for juniors and £8 for adults. This fixture offers families, friends and supporters the chance to cheer on Cymru in Carmarthenshire and celebrate women’s sport at the highest level. 

With pre-match entertainment planned, it promises to be an inspiring occasion for young girls and future athletes across the county. Llandeilo-born Wales international Ffion Morgan shared her excitement, reflecting on how Carmarthenshire shaped her early love of the game and how special it is to represent her country in front of her home community.

International Women’s Day is more than a date on the calendar—it is a reminder of the progress made, the challenges that remain, and the collective responsibility we share to create a fairer, more equal society. Carmarthenshire County Council’s programme reflects a commitment to:-

• Creating spaces where women and girls feel valued, confident and included.
