The sudden closure of the Stradey Park Hotel has understandably caused concern across our community, particularly for the staff whose jobs and livelihoods have been directly affected. Carmarthenshire County Council has been working quickly to provide clarity, reassurance, and practical support during this uncertain time.

What We Know About the Closure: -The owners of the Stradey Park Hotel have taken the decision to close the hotel with immediate effect. This announcement came without prior notice to staff or the wider community, leaving many people understandably worried about what may happen next.

Following urgent discussions between Carmarthenshire County Council and Dame Nia Griffith MP, the UK Government has confirmed that the building is not being considered for any temporary housing plans, including the accommodation of asylum seekers. The Council has also confirmed that it has no plans to purchase the building, and it has received no approaches from the Home Office or any other organisation regarding future use of the site.

Support for Staff and Safeguarding Jobs. The County Council’s priority is the wellbeing and future employment of the hotel’s staff. Council officers have already: -

• Made direct contact with affected staff to offer employability and careers support.

• Put in place tailored assistance, including help with job searches, CVs, training opportunities, and access to wider support services.

• Committed to staying in close contact with staff throughout this period to ensure no one faces this uncertainty alone.

Council Leader Cllr Linda Evans has emphasised that supporting staff is the Council’s immediate focus, recognising the shock and worry this closure has caused for those directly affected. Reassurance for the Community Local ward members, Cllrs Martyn Palfreman and Edward Skinner, have welcomed the swift action taken by the County Council and the clear assurances from the UK Government.

They have encouraged anyone with ongoing concerns to contact them directly so that accurate information and support can be provided.

Moving Forward Together

This is a difficult moment for many local families, but the Council, local representatives, and partner organisations are working together to ensure staff receive the support they need and that the community remains fully informed.
