I recently came across a powerful piece of work that I felt was important to share more widely.
April marks the Month of the Military Child, a time dedicated to recognising the vital role played by children within Armed Forces families. These young people often experience unique challenges, including frequent relocations, changes in education, and periods of separation from parents due to service commitments. Despite this, they consistently demonstrate remarkable resilience, adaptability, and strength.
As part of this year’s awareness activity, SSCE Cymru has shared a collection of five songs written by Service children across Wales, created during the 2025 Armed Forces Festivals. These songs provide an authentic and moving insight into:
The lived experiences of Service life
The emotional impact of separation and change
The strength and pride within Armed Forces families
While the accompanying video is slightly longer, it is well worth taking the time to watch and reflect on the voices of these young people. I would encourage residents to share this content as widely as possible to help raise awareness and understanding. Supporting our Armed Forces community includes supporting their families — and especially their children.
