The latest edition of the Public Health Pump newsletter highlights a range of initiatives currently being delivered across the Hywel Dda region to improve public health outcomes and strengthen preventative healthcare.

Key developments include the Step C Free Elimination Project, a major initiative working towards the eradication of Hepatitis C by 2030. The programme focuses on improving access to blood-borne virus testing and treatment, particularly among vulnerable or underserved populations.

The newsletter also highlights ongoing winter vaccination programmes, including efforts to increase flu vaccine uptake across communities and the introduction of nasal spray flu vaccinations for younger children in nursery settings.

Health leaders across the region continue to emphasise the importance of prevention as the foundation of modern healthcare, with particular focus on reducing the impact of major preventable risk factors such as smoking, poor nutrition, harmful alcohol use and physical inactivity.

In addition, health partners participated in Exercise Pegasus, a national pandemic preparedness exercise designed to test response systems and ensure that health services remain ready to respond to future public health emergencies.

Together, these initiatives reflect the continued focus on prevention, resilience and improved community health across Wales.—Stay connected — all my links, updates, and projects are available through my digital card:
