Carmarthenshire County Council’s Trading Standards team has received reports of individuals going door-to-door offering services such as roofing work, driveway cleaning, landscaping, home repairs, and maintenance work. In some cases, concerns have also been raised about high-pressure sales tactics and people falsely claiming to be working “on behalf of the council.”

Please remember: You are under no obligation to answer the door or agree to any work from uninvited callers Never feel pressured into making an immediate decision Always ask to see identification and take time to verify it.

Be especially mindful of elderly or vulnerable neighbours who are often targeted If you need work carried out, consider using trusted and vetted businesses through the “Buy With Confidence” scheme.

Legitimate businesses and council officers will never pressure you into making quick decisions and official staff will always carry identification. If you witness suspicious activity or feel concerned about a doorstep caller, please report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service, who work closely with Trading Standards to help tackle rogue traders.

A quick conversation with a neighbour or family member could help protect someone from becoming a victim.

Please stay safe and help spread awareness by sharing this post with others in our community.
