Families connected to the Armed Forces often face unique challenges, particularly when caring for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) such as autism or ADHD. The constant demands of service life, combined with long waiting lists and navigating support systems, can sometimes feel overwhelming.
That’s why it’s important to highlight services that are available to help. Through a partnership between DMWS (Defence Medical Welfare Service) and Hope GB, support is available for Armed Forces families who are caring for children with ALN needs — whether or not there is a formal diagnosis.
The service offers free, confidential support, including: Understanding of the military community and its challenges Tailored support for families Assistance delivered online, by phone, or in person Professional guidance designed to help families navigate the support available.
If you are part of an Armed Forces family and are feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn for help, or struggling with long waiting lists for support, please know that there are people ready to help.
