Important changes to statutory sick pay are now in place, bringing meaningful support to millions of workers across the UK. Under the new rules, workers will now receive sick pay from the first day of illness, rather than having to wait until day four.
In addition, approximately 1.2 million lower-paid workers—previously excluded due to earnings thresholds—are now eligible for statutory sick pay. These changes represent a significant step forward in supporting those most in need, particularly:
Lower-income households
Women in part-time and lower-paid roles
Disabled workers
Younger and older members of the workforce
For many, this removes the difficult and often unfair choice between protecting their health and maintaining their income. Beyond individual benefit, these changes will also help reduce the spread of illness in workplaces and communities—supporting public health and overall wellbeing.
A fair system is one that supports people not only when times are good, but when they need help the most.📢 Residents are encouraged to share this information so that more people are aware of the support now available.
