As part of my commitment to keeping residents informed not only about local matters but also wider developments across Carmarthenshire, I wanted to share an important and positive update. The Tywi Valley Path, a flagship active travel route connecting Carmarthen and Llandeilo, is set to fully open in time for Easter.
The completion of the final 13-mile stretch between Abergwili and Ffairfach marks a significant milestone for the county. This final phase includes the installation of two landmark bridges crossing the River Tywi and River Cothi, helping to create a continuous, safe, and accessible route for walkers, cyclists, families, and visitors.
The path runs through some of Carmarthenshire’s most scenic countryside, offering views of notable landmarks such as Paxton’s Tower, Dryslwyn Castle, and Dinefwr Castle. It also links to a range of attractions including Carmarthen Museum, Parc Yr Esgob, the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens, and Gelli Aur.Beyond its scenic appeal, the Tywi Valley Path delivers wider benefits by:
Promoting active travel and healthier lifestyles
Supporting mental wellbeing through access to nature
Encouraging tourism and economic activity
Strengthening connectivity between communities
While this development sits outside our immediate ward, it is exactly the type of investment that contributes to the long-term wellbeing and prosperity of Carmarthenshire as a whole.
I will continue to share updates like this to ensure residents are aware of the broader opportunities and developments taking place across the county. If you’re looking for somewhere to explore over the Easter period, the Tywi Valley Path is certainly worth considering.
