I recently watched the new promotional video produced by Carmarthenshire County Council highlighting our wonderful coastline and surrounding area, and I have to say it was genuinely uplifting to see our community and landscape presented in such a positive light.
For those of us who live here, it’s easy to forget that what we see every day — the wide open beaches, the views across the Burry Inlet, the Millennium Coastal Path and the unique character of our coastal communities — is something that many people travel a long way to experience.
Videos like this are more important than people might realise. They are often seen by thousands of potential visitors, families looking for places to explore, walkers searching for scenic routes, and tourists deciding where to spend their next weekend or holiday. When our area is showcased well, it helps support local businesses, jobs and the wider community.
Of course, no place is ever perfect and there will always be work to do — whether that’s continuing to protect our environment, maintain our harbour and coastline, or invest in the facilities that residents and visitors rely on. Those are conversations that should always continue in a constructive and responsible way.
But it is equally important that we celebrate what we already have. Our coastline is one of the most beautiful parts of Wales, rich in wildlife, history and stunning natural scenery. It deserves to be recognised and shared.
I personally think it’s great to see our area being promoted so positively. It reminds us that while challenges exist — as they do everywhere — there is also so much to be proud of here in our community.
And if this video encourages even more people to visit our beaches, walk the coastal path, enjoy the harbour and support our local businesses, then that can only be a good thing for our area.
Sometimes it’s worth taking a moment to step back and appreciate the place we call home.
