✈️ A Proud Moment for Our Community — Honouring Our Heritage ✨

On Monday, I had the absolute pleasure of presenting a cheque for £872 to the Amelia Earhart Centenary Group, awarded from my Mayor’s Fund during my term as Mayor (2024–2025).

I can’t express enough how happy I was to support a truly local, community‑based group who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the 100th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s landing in Burry Port is celebrated in a way that reflects the pride we all feel in this remarkable piece of our heritage.

Amelia Earhart’s landing here in 1928 helped to place Burry Port on the world map, marking a moment in history that still resonates today. It’s a story of courage, exploration, and breaking boundaries — and it’s part of our story too. Preserving and celebrating that legacy is something incredibly special.

The dedication of this local community group is remarkable — not only in honouring Amelia Earhart’s legacy as a pioneering aviator, but in making sure the centenary event is: -

🌟 Welcoming to the many visitors expected to join us next year.

🌟 A boost for our local community, showcasing everything that makes Burry Port and Pembrey so special.

🌟 A celebration that inspires future generations, just as Earhart herself inspired the world.

🌟 A celebration that honours our heritage, ensuring Amelia’s story continues to inspire future generations.

This funding will support the Group’s ongoing work to bring this milestone to life, and I’m genuinely excited to see the plans unfold.

Moments like this remind us what community spirit looks like — people coming together, volunteering their time, and working with passion to celebrate our shared heritage.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. Your passion and commitment ensure that our shared history is not only remembered but celebrated in the way it deserves.

Here’s to a centenary celebration worthy of Amelia Earhart’s legacy — and worthy of Burry Port.
