Happy St David’s Day / Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Happy St David’s Day / Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

As we celebrate St David’s Day, I want to send my warmest wishes to everyone across Pembrey, Burry Port and Carmarthenshire.

St David — Saint David, the patron saint of Wales — is more than a figure from our past. He stands as a symbol of Welsh identity, resilience, kindness, and community spirit.

Living in the 6th century, he travelled across Wales teaching, healing and helping to build early Christian communities. His influence shaped not only our faith traditions, but our culture, our language, and our shared sense of belonging.

But perhaps the most powerful legacy he left us is his simple, grounded message: -

“Gwnewch y pethau bychain.”

“Do the little things.”

In a world that often pushes us to chase bigger, louder achievements, St David reminds us that small acts of kindness, care and compassion can create the greatest change....

A friendly word.

A helping hand.

Checking in on a neighbour.

Supporting our community groups and volunteers.

Being patient, thoughtful and fair.

These are the things that knit a community together.

As a Councillor, I see the impact of these “little things” every day — from volunteers supporting local charities, to residents looking out for vulnerable neighbours, to people who quietly give their time without ever seeking recognition.

Today is a celebration of Wales, but also of who we are when we live by St David’s example.

So however you’re marking the day — with daffodils, a parade, school celebrations, or just a warm cwtch and a cup of tea — I hope it’s filled with pride, kindness and community.

**Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus i chi gyd!

Please forgive me if some om translation is not correct, but am trying my best.

Happy St David’s Day to you all!**
