Important Update: My Account System Strengthening Security.
Just a quick update to keep everyone in the loop — especially those who regularly use the online My Account service.
Over the next few weeks, the system will be introducing a new and much stronger authentication method to help protect users from online threats. This is an important step, as older “basic authentication” makes it easier for attackers to try to capture login details. What does this mean for you?
To keep your information secure, all users will be asked to change their password once. This is a one-time update, and once done, you won’t need to repeat it.
Although it may feel like a small inconvenience, it is a big improvement in keeping your personal details safe.
New Password Requirements.
Your new password must be: -
12–128 characters long (and must include at least 3 of the following 4 categories): -
Lowercase letters.
Uppercase letters.
Numbers (0–9).
Symbols such as: -
@ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ` , ? / ‘ ( ) ; . ~
These modern standards help ensure much stronger security for everyone’s account.
Why this matters?
Cyber-crime is constantly evolving, and these updates are designed to: -
1. Protect your personal information.
2. Reduce the risk of fraudulent access.
3. Keep council services secure and reliable.
4. Ensure safer online interactions for all residents.
If you aren’t sure what to do or need help when the update arrives, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to point people in the right direction.
