Cawl Cennin: A Warm Bowl of Tradition in the Heart of Our Community

As winter begins to loosen its grip and the first bright daffodils start to appear, there’s something wonderfully comforting about traditions that bring us together.

One of my favourites is the annual Cawl Cennin event, returning once again on Wednesday 4 March 2026 at the Memorial Hall in Burry Port.

There’s something special about walking into a room filled with familiar faces, steaming bowls of homemade leek soup, and the unmistakable buzz of neighbours catching up after the long winter months.

It’s a simple event — nothing overly grand or elaborate — but it carries that unmistakable warmth that only a close-knit community can create. This year, as always, tickets are just £6, available from the Town Council Office.

The doors open at 12:30pm, giving everyone plenty of time to settle in, find a seat, and enjoy the moment. The event is open exclusively to residents of Pembrey and Burry Port, keeping the spirit of locality strong.Whether you come for the food, the company, or simply the feeling of belonging, Cawl Cennin is more than just a lunch — it’s a reminder of what binds us together.

If you’d like to join in, more details are available by calling 01554 834346.

I hope to see you there, sharing a bowl and a smile as we welcome the spring.
